Superman Star Happy to Be Gay Icon

Superman Returns star Brandon Routh is happy for the superhero to be a gay icon, because he wants everyone to love Superman's "spirit." The Man of Steel's gay-friendly status has increased with the new installment, because director Bryan Singer is openly homosexual. But Routh insists there is enough of Superman for everyone, regardless of sex, race and sexuality. He says, "We have fans from all walks of life, all races and credos. I don't know why Superman can't be an icon for everyone throughout the world. The more people who love his spirit, the better."
