Stars deny they're Scientologists
Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have denied they're members of the controversial Church of Scientology. Rumours have been circulating since the stars became close friends with Scientology fanatic Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and all attended their lavish Italian wedding. J.Lo., whose friend Leah Remini is a Scientologist, denied she had converted (like Katie Holmes, Jen was raised a Catholic). Carrey and McCarthy were also rumoured to be members of the Church of Scientology, but Jim's rep was quick to deny it, saying "He's not taking classes." The religion, seen as a cult by many, was founded by sci-fi writer Ron L Hubbard. It's based on the belief we're descended from aliens. Each person is a Thetan, a soul, which needs to be 'rehabilitated' in order to achieve freedom.
