Nick Lachey admits Newlyweds Show was Dumb

Nick Lachey has admitted that choosing to do a reality TV show with ex-wife Jessica Simpson was a "dumb idea" and may have contributed to the break-up of their marriage. The MTV show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, ran for three seasons and Lachey said that while the couple enjoyed the project at first, filming soon took a toll on their lives. Speaking about the show during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Lachey said, "It was among the dumber ideas I think I've ever seen executed in history. For a while we actually enjoyed doing the show," he stressed, before adding that the programme "just got to a place where it was so invasive, it became a problem". Asked whether he thought taking part in the show had contributed to his split with Simpson, his wife of nearly three-and-a-half years, Lachey reflected, "You know that's one of those things where I think until you get enough hindsight and enough clarity and perspective, I don't think you can really know what happened. But, I certainly think it was probably a factor," he added.
